SculpSure Q & A

What is body contouring?

Body contouring is a noninvasive alternative to liposuction. Body contouring targets your body fat by using energy rather than surgery. The energy is delivered either hot or cold in order to damage and shrink fat cells.

There are four body contouring options:

  • Cryolipolysis -- Exposure to cold
  • High-intensity focused sound waves delivered through ultrasound
  • Light waves delivered via low-level laser
  • Radio waves

What is SculpSure?

SculpSure uses non-surgical, low-level laser therapy to reduce body circumference measurements of the areas treated. When you have SculpSure with Dr. Macey, he uses different-sized applicators approximately the size of a cell phone. The applicators target, heat, and damage body fat cells. Other cells remain unharmed. Each session takes about 30 minutes and targets multiple areas at once.

SculpSure is generally painless, and there are little to no side effects. However, while patients do not experience bruising, the skin can sometimes have a pinkish hue, and in the treated area, patients may feel some soreness. Unlike liposuction, SculpSure requires little downtime -- patients are free to resume all normal activities once the session is complete.

Results begin to appear a month after treatment and continue to improve for subsequent months afterward. During this time, the body works to flush up to a quarter of all of the fat in the treated area. For further improvement, patients may schedule additional sessions.

Why choose SculpSure over liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses suction to isolate fat from targeted areas of the body. As with other surgeries, liposuction carries risks, including bleeding and a reaction to anesthesia. Once complete, patients should expect pain, swelling and bruising, and will not be able to return to work or resume normal activities, such as exercise, before the doctor clears them. It takes several months for many individuals to achieve optimal results.

To minimize the potential risks of liposuction, SculpSure is an effective alternative to reducing body fat. SculpSure offers similar results without the anesthesia, risks, or downtime. In fact, after a single SculpSure session, patients are able to resume normal activities. The body can reach optimal results in a few weeks.
